Bianchi out in front on Giro’s highest mountains
A legendary deed on Grossglockner massif, then two Top-10 placing. Bianchi was in the spotlight on the 94th Giro d’Italia’s highest mountains with Androni Giocattoli’s rider Josè Rujano, able to fight with the pink race’s favourites and achieve 6th overall, after Gardeccia’s stage-15, on Sunday, May 22nd.

After the great victory with his Bianchi Oltre model in the stage-13, from Spilimbergo to Grossglockner (Austria), Venezuelan climber payed the effort the day after in the stage-14, on the terrible Zoncolan mountain. Anyway, Rujano clinched a good 10th position, with a 2:11 gap from Spanish Igor Anton.

Rujano himself was the best of his team in the stage-15, Giro’s hardest one, 229 km from Conegliano to Gardeccia/Val di Fassa, almost 7 hours on saddle. Androni’s rider placed 6th, 2:35 behind Iberian Mikel Nieve and only 44 behind pink jersey’s holder, Alberto Contador. Rujano took 6th in the overall as well, with a 8:39 gap.

Stage-15 also highlighted Emanuele Sella’s climber skills: Italian rider was a long time in the daily Top-5, until the last climb. Androni Giocattoli team kept standing in the top positions of Super Team ranking: Gianni Savio’s team is second with 260 points, 5 less than Lampre – ISD.
