TX Active-Bianchi’s Gerhard Kerschbaumer won a round earlier the MTB “Internazionali d’Italia”. Italian U23 rider took the final success thanks to a brilliant victory in the round-4 in Chies d’Alpago, Northern Italy, on Sunday, June 5th. Good news even for Tony Longo: his gap from the Elite ranking’s leader has been reduced to one point.

Kerschbaumer outdistanced all his opponents, clinching first overall and clocking 1.40:06. Michele Casagrande was runner-up, with a 23-seconds gap. Thanks to the 35 points taken in Chies d’Alpago, TX Active-Bianchi’s rider flies to 170 in Internazionali’s ranking, unachievable score for everyone. Longo placed tenth and fifth of Elite series, going up to 81 points, just one less than Marco Aurelio Fontana, leader jersey’s holder, and levelled with Ivan Alvarez Gutierrez. A mechanical problem forced Cristian Cominelli to give up.

One success and four placing for the Junior Team, in the Coppa Italia’s side event. Cadet Cristian Boffelli scored a fantastic victory on a muddy course and under the pouring rain, whilst Italian champion Federico Barri finished fourth. Chiara Teocchi was runner-up among the girls. Rookies Oscar Vairetti and Giorgio Rossi went close to podium, taking respectively fourth and fifth.

Bianchi bikes keep on confirming successful on the Norhtern Europe races. Jayco AIS’ Michael Hepburn won on his Bianchi "Sempre model" saddle a five-man sprint at the end of the 175 km Glava Tour of Norway second stage in Drammen. Queenland’s 19-year-old rider scored his first victory in a European stage race.

The race was shaken by the double attempt of Jayco AIS’ Mal Rudolf, but it was Hepburn who found the right breakaway alongside Dane Rene Jorgensen (Christina Watches) and Norwegian Frode Solberg (Sparebanken Vest). Hepburn was first over the climb 15 km from the finish line, but Dutchman Wilco Kelderman (Rabobank), Norway’s Fredrik Willmann (Joker Merida) and Dane Michael Rasmussen (Christina Watches) caught him and Jorgensen. In the final kilometres, Australian rider raced smartly and kept his legs freshest for the final sprint, bringing his “Bianchi Sempre” to the victory.

Alberto Contador, 94th Giro d’Italia outstanding winner, was not the sole one celebrating a happy day in Milan, where the pink race came to end today, Sunday, May 29th. Bianchi and Team Androni completed an exciting Giro d’Italia in which the squad leaded by Gianni Savio and equipped by “Bianchi Oltre” bike was in the front line from the start-up in Turin to the end, with two stage wins and an unbelievable number of podium and top-5 placements.

But the main good news of this Giro was Androni’s Josè Rujano indeed, who completed one of the hardest stage race in recent history with a seventh place in the overall. The Venezuelan rider dropped from sixth after time trial stage, with white jersey Roman Kreuziger as beneficiary. However, his Giro was fantastic: with a stunning win on Grossglockner top, runner-up on Etna and Sestriere, Rujano put the seal on what has been a hugely successful return to form.

Michele Scarponi and Vincenzo Nibali rounded-off Giro’s podium, both over 6 minutes behind the Spaniard who controlled the race from the moment he surged away from the field to win on Mount Etna taking over the leader’s maglia rosa.
